Observations from European Voice's editor on multilingualism ...

The European Commission's department for education and culture, has, in its wisdom, inveigled me to take part in a conference on multilingualism. Such an event is held annually. The novelty this year is that it is being held in Cyprus, the country that currently holds the presidency of the Council of Ministers – and the country from which Androulla Vassiliou, the European commissioner for multilingualism (among other things) hails.

On the second day, it fell to me, as an occupational troublemaker, to stir things up a bit.
I cast some doubt on the European Commission's proclaimed commitment to multilingualism ...
