EU staff to strike over pay deal

Main unions upset about member states' bid to cut EU administrative spending
Several unions representing European Union officials have called a strike on 8 November to push back against attempts by the member states to cut the Union's administrative spending.

The strike call initially came from staff at the EU's Council of Ministers, with Commission unions now joining.

The strike action comes ahead of a special summit of member states' leaders on 22-23 November during which they are supposed to agree the EU's long-term spending plan, the multi-annual financial framework, which applies in 2014-20.

Parliament officials have no plans at present to go on strike.
