A Republican Poland?

US Republicans should not assume that Poland is yearning for them to return to power.

It is easy to see why his aides thought Mitt Romney’s trip to Poland was a good idea. Poland is the US’s most important ally in ‘new Europe’ (a term coined by a Republican, former defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld). So where better to trumpet the Romney administration’s priorities? The US will again cherish its long-suffering allies, rather than appease its “geopolitical foe” (as Romney termed Russia). A hard-talking Republican would surely delight the Poles and highlight the chilly, corrosive policies of the Obama years.
