Arms embargo on Syria renewed

UK pushes through amendment to allow more “non-lethal support”.

The European Union today (18 February) extended its embargo on the supply of arms to Syria by three months. However, foreign ministers from the EU’s 27 member states also added an amendment enabling countries “to provide greater non-lethal support and technical assistance for the protection of civilians”.
