Austerity debate dominates summit of EU leaders

Calls to boost jobs and growth but no end to tough fiscal discipline.

European leaders tonight acknowledged that the tough response to the financial crisis has its limits but gave little suggestion that the EU’s austerity-centred policies would change.After their summit in Brussels tonight they emphasised the need for job creation, particularly for the young, and insisted that there should be “short-term targeted measures” to boost growth.
