Borg seeks limits on seed treatments

Commission responds to warnings of danger to bees but industry says there is no justification for a ban.

Tonio Borg, the European commissioner for health and consumer policy, will today (31 January) suggest limiting the use of neonicotinoid pesticide seed treatments across the European Union, following a study from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) that identified risks to bees.
