Compromise takes shape on 2013 budget

Last-ditch talks on 2013 negotiations.

A possible compromise on the European Union’s draft budget for 2013 is taking shape as the member states, the European Commission and the European Parliament prepare for last-ditch talks tomorrow (9 November). The negotiations are the last chance for a political agreement based on the Commission’s current proposal for the 2013 budget. Should the talks fail, the Commission will have to draft a new proposal. From 1 January, the EU would operate on a month-by-month emergency budget based on 2012 figures.
