Dangerous and undemocratic

The European Commission must keep voicing its concern about Hungary’s disturbing political culture and its anti-Semitic far right

In the eyes of many, the European Union has committed two gross strategic errors in the past 15 years, with consequences that haunt it to this day. About the first there is no argument: that the economic and monetary union is struggling for survival because it was launched without the necessary powers and disciplines. The second generates more heat: that the 2004 and 2007 enlargements admitted too many countries that are economically backward, democratically feeble and with divergent political cultures.
