EU names new Afghanistan special envoy

Former Lithuanian foreign minister to be special representative.

Vygaudas Ušackas has been appointed as the European Union’s next special representative for Afghanistan and head of its delegation in Kabul. The Lithuanian diplomat is the first of several EU special envoys - accountable to Catherine Ashton, the EU’s foreign policy chief – who will also head a Union delegation abroad.
