For the fourth time, European Voice, together with the Campaign for Parliamentary Reform and Burson Marsteller, will stage a debate between the contenders to the presidency of the European Parliament.
Candidates to the assembly's top job will present their programmes and vision for the two-and-a half-year term, and will answer questions asked by MEPs, journalists, EU officials and business representatives. The debate will be moderated by Dana Spinant, editor of European Voice.
The European Parliament is more powerful than ever and will become even more influential if the Lisbon treaty comes into force. But the assembly faces a legitimacy challenge: voter turnout for the European elections has fallen steadily since 1979 and it hit a new record low in June's polls.
In which direction would candidates to the presidency steer the European Parliament? How would they increase citizens' awareness of the Parliament's work?
