From re-set to re-think in relations with Russia

Dmitry Medvedev offered an illusion of change. Now that the illusion has been dispelled, what policy should the West follow?

The prospect of 12 more years of Vladimir Putin should prompt a re-think in relations with Russia. For a start, those who have spent the past four years cultivating President Dmitry Medvedev, and with him the cause of modernisation and liberalisation, need to accept that those hopes were misplaced.
