Peter Tempel, Germany’s top diplomat to the EU since August 2010

During the eurozone crisis, being Germany’s permanent representative to the European Union has required even more diplomatic subtlety than the role usually demands. Germany has needed to maintain support for its tough demands for countries to cut their deficits and rein in public spending in response to the crisis as well as to win back the faith of financial markets.
