High-speed broadband to be a priority in 2013

Fresh investment in cyber security also planned but telecoms companies are concerned over pricing.

Proposals to encourage fresh investment in broadband infrastructure and to tighten up cyber- security are to emerge next year, according to Neelie Kroes, the European commissioner for the digital agenda. She said on Tuesday (18 December) that the Commission had to refocus its approach to technology policy and improve a “patchy pan-European policy framework” that was holding back potential rewards for Europe.
