SOCIAL Affairs Commissioner Pádraig Flynn announced the formation of a group of experts to try to resolve the long-standing impasse over the proposed European Company Statute, which would allow firms to set themselves up as European companies. The main sticking point preventing a deal for more than 20 years has been the extent of worker participation in this and three other proposals. Flynn said he would ask five “high level” labour policy experts to look at the problem. The group, to be set up by the end of the year, will include representatives from both ETUC and UNICE and will have three months to deliberate.
