Banking on Asian co-operation

Haruhiko Kuroda, president of the $70 billion (€48.3bn) Asian Development Bank, on his first official visit to Brussels last week (10 March), had an unequivocal message to deliver to his hosts at the European Commission. “I am well aware,” he said, “of the difficulty of promoting co-operation between Asian countries. I agree with those who highlight the challenge of fostering exchange rate co-operation [among them]. But Europe would be well advised to recognise it could benefit from increased exchange rate co-operation amongst ASEAN countries."
