Brown's subprime summit has some merit

Gordon Brown has found it difficult to emulate his predecessor Tony Blair in many respects since taking over as UK prime minister in June last year. But he does seem to have managed to repeat Blair's feat in annoying his European allies by inviting German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy to a mini-summit in Downing Street on 29 January.
