Airline alliance

The European Commission said on Monday (1 February) that British Airways, American Airlines and Iberia have offered to amend plans to co-ordinate their fares and schedules in exchange for the EU ending an antitrust probe. The Commission is studying the proposal.

ING challenge

The Dutch government and ING announced on Thursday (28 January) that they will take the Commission to the General Court of the European Union in an effort to overturn restructuring measures imposed on the bank in November.

Telecoms regulation

The Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), a new EU body tasked with co-ordinating regulatory steps in Europe's telecoms markets, held its first meeting on Tuesday. BEREC replaces the European Regulators Group.

Electricity market

The Commission said yesterday (3 February) that antitrust officials had raided several manufacturers of “flexible alternating current transmission systems”.
