The claim by Vicky Claeys of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) that the Vatican is attempting “to reinstall the Catholic Church as the political leader and legislator in Europe” (‘Catholic countries ‘will threaten ethical decisions'', European Voice, 6-12 March) is so far-fetched that it barely merits response. However, her contempt for the values of the electorates of countries such as Poland and Malta is disturbing, especially coming from the spokesperson of an organisation that receives substantial funding from the European Commission.
