Does Borrell believe in aliens?

Josep Borrell is still president of the European Parliament for a few weeks yet but perhaps he is already mentally out of office. Like Chirac (see left) Borrell was asked during the European Council about the RTBF “docu-fiction” reporting Flanders seceding from Belgium and the King and Queen of the Belgians taking refuge in the Congo. Borrell, a Catalan, had clearly reflected long and hard about the integrity of the nation-state. He said it reminded him of Orson Welles's radio show ‘War of the Worlds' which in the 1930s terrified the US with a fictional account of an invasion by Martians. “It shows how naive people are. I don't know which is more likely – Martians landing or the break-up of Belgium.” So either we conclude that Borrell has an enormous faith in the indivisibility of Belgium or that he has an exaggerated belief in little green men...
