France plans to boost Eurogroup

Christine Lagarde, the French finance minister, is to present proposals to strengthen the role of the Eurogroup during France's presidency of the Council of Ministers, which begins in July. Thomas Lambert, a foreign ministry official, speaking in Brussels on 28 May, refused to give details, but hinted at the need for the Eurogroup, the finance ministers of the eurozone, to have its own secretariat to prepare policy papers for their meetings.
