Pakistan trade preferences
Last October, the EU offered unilateral trade concessions to Pakistan to help the country recover from devastating floods. However, the concessions require a World Trade Organization waiver, which Bangladesh and India – Pakistan's main trade competitors – oppose.
A vote on the matter has been postponed until April, allowing the EU and Pakistan to step up their diplomacy on the scheme, but the outcome of the vote remains uncertain. The temporary measures could generate up to €100 million in additional exports from Pakistan, primarily in the textile sector.
