Interior minister's meeting not well attended

Attendance at the informal meeting of EU justice and interior ministers in Tampere last week proved something of a problem. Italy's Giuliano Amato was there, but French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy stayed away and sent Christian Estrosi, a junior minister, instead. Another absentee was the UK's John Reid who was warming up for the annual Labour party conference.
