Macedonia's rush to spur economic development

Macedonia's economy is slowly picking up, but the government now has to improve political dialogue and depoliticise public administration

Macedonia is slowly emerging from a painful economic transformation. Growth has picked up to 5.2% in the first quarter of 2008, inflation is fairly low and economic policy-making is prudent. Manufacturing, construction and financial sectors have all seen improvements, with heavy investment in machinery and equipment.
