Maltese wanna be upwardly mobile

The European Parliament has to respond swiftly to the Commission's proposal to cap the roaming charges imposed on mobile-phone users when they travel abroad.
The internal market committee has handed Joseph Muscat (pictured right), a Maltese Socialist MEP, the task of drafting its response. According to a report published recently by the ubiquitous Eurobarometer, Malta is the EU member state with the greatest share of the population that says they would use their mobile phones more if prices were lower. Muscat has his own techniques for reducing roaming charges: he has a Maltacom GSM in Malta and a Proximus GSM for Belgium.
The Austrian centre-right (EPP-ED) MEP Paul Rübig (pictured left), who is preparing the industry committee's opinion, has just one mobile phone, with service from Mobilkom Austria's A1.
