The European Commission has appointed several new special advisers. Robert Cooper is to advise Catherine Ashton, the European Union's foreign policy chief, on Myanmar. Cooper retired at the end of August from his position as European External Action Service counsellor. Marco Lisi is to become adviser to Antonio Tajani, the European commissioner for industry and entrepreneurship, on European space policy. Albert Bressand will advise Andris Piebalgs, the European commissioner for development, on natural resources in developing countries and Patrick Guillaumont will advise him on aid allocation. Pierre-Yves Cousteau will advise Maria Damanaki, the European commissioner for fisheries, on fisheries policy and marine protected areas. László Andor, the European Commissioner for employment, will be advised by Martin Hirsch on social policy reform. Cecilia Malmström, the European commissioner for home affairs, will be assisted by Anna Terrón Cusí on migration issues. Four new special advisers – Marjorie Jouen, Cees Veerman, Dirk Ahner and Bertrand Hervieu – will assist Dacian Ciolos? with preparation for Common Agricultural Policy reform.
Laurent de Boeck has left his position as director of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Observatory on Migration to become chief of mission of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Monika Peruffo will be the acting director of the ACP Observatory.
Henri Thomé has been appointed chief executive of ESL & Network European Affairs, a consultancy in Brussels. Thomé is a former director-general of the Europe business of Bouygues Group.
The Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME) has appointed Eddy Wymeersch as a non-executive director and senior adviser.
Mihai Tanasescu has been appointed vice-president and member of the management committee of the European Investment Bank (EIB). The Romanian succeeded Plutarchos Sakellaris, a Greek, who completed four years as an EIB vice-president. Sakellaris becomes an honorary EIB vice-president.
