Neither love nor money

The dating agency Eurosingles has been attracting some unwelcome (or perhaps welcome) publicity in the Belgian media. The agency, founded by an EU official, is supposed to be reserved exclusively for officials from the EU institutions, agencies, NATO, Eurocontrol and embassies. But apparently there have been attempts by outsiders to masquerade as officials for the purposes of gold-digging – looking for well-paid partners. Such outsiders should be careful: not all EU officials are as well-paid as used to be the case. Gold-diggers should make sure to distinguish between those recruited under the old staff regulation and those recruited since May 2004 under the new staff regulation. The rewards are very different.
