Pat receives Polish Oscar

29.01.2004 / 00:00 CET
European Parliament President Pat Cox gets an ‘Oscar' on Saturday (31 January) – from the Polish Business Club. The Irishman, who's collected his fair share of awards in his two years as president, will receive the honour at the Royal Castle in Warsaw in recognition of his work for bringing the enlargement process to a finale.
Cox is in good company as previous winners include Ronald Reagan, Mikhail Gorbachev, Javier Solana and Margaret Thatcher.
His trip to Poland will also be heavy on symbolism as it includes a visit to the Gdansk shipyard, where the country's EU journey began in 1980 with Solidarnosc.
