Reding seeks to cut travellers' SMS costs

Draft legislation to be published in September

Travellers will pay less than half of current charges for sending text messages on a foreign mobile phone network from next summer, under plans currently being drafted by the European Commission.

Reding mulls further action against mobile phone operators

The European Commission is planning further action against mobile phone operators who overcharge for cross-border services, Commission telecoms spokesman Martin Selmayr said today. To tackle the problem, an EU-wide regulation would be needed.

International film projects get EU funding

The European Commission on 27 August announced the selection of 18 international film co-operation projects which will receive a total of €2 million of EU funding under the so-called Media International programme, as part of the Commission's drive to boost Europe's film industry.
