Rupel tells Mugabe to step aside

Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel on Tuesday (1 April) called on Robert Mugabe to step down as president of Zimbabwe in the wake of elections on 29 March. “If Mr Mugabe continues, it will be a coup d'état,” he told reporters after briefing the European Parliament's foreign affairs committee on last weekend's meeting of EU foreign ministers in Slovenia. “I hope he is on his way out. Most Europeans think this way.”
