Sarkozy's dangerous political manoeuvres

On his maiden visit to the EU institutions, the newly elected French President Nicolas Sarkozy reiterated his position on Turkey. He contends that Turkey has no place in Europe. Now it is left to EU governments to gauge whether his words were merely electoral rhetoric or constitute a real intention to block the country's four-decade-old European aspirations.
