Schröder set to steal the show at Union leaders' special summit

THE special summit called at the insistence of former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl to focus EU leaders' attention on bringing Europe "closer to its citizens" is likely to turn into a getting-to-know-you session for his successor.Diplomats predict that the informal gathering of heads of state and government at Pörtschach on 24-25 October will bear a striking resemblance to the summit in the Dutch coastal resort of Noordwijk last year when new UK Prime Minister Tony Blair stole the show.
