Swedish priorities

Sweden aims to be carbon-neutral in 2050, the government said in March, when it announced two bills on domestic climate policy. Targets include:

40% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2020, two-thirds from domestic reductions, the remaining third from buying carbon credits in other countries

50% renewable energy use by 2020, less dependence on nuclear power and hydropower

40% renewable energy in transport by 2020 and a vehicle stock independent of fossil fuels by 2030

The phase-out of fossil fuels for heating by 2020
