Time to get tough on corruption

THE past year has been marked by a crisis of trust – trust in government and trust in business. In Italy, the parliament responded to charges of corruption and false accounting against Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and his associates by passing a law decriminalising false accounting, a change likely to encourage money-laundering.
