UKIP Wikipedia puzzle

06.09.2007 / 00:00 CET
The UK Independence Party has accused the US Mission to the EU of undermining its image through that fiendish instrument of counter-intelligence: the online encyclopaedia Wikipedia. According to UKIP, 11 anonymous edits that have been made to the Wikipedia entry on UKIP can be traced to an internet address at the US mission in Brussels.
Nigel Farage, an MEP and leader of UKIP, said: “Though I am sure that this is not official US policy it is symptomatic of the dishonest way in which the UK Independence Party is treated.”
Wikipedia allows its readers to view changes made to an original article by clicking on a ‘history' link. For the UKIP article, one entry stating that “the party has fared comparatively poorly at the polls until recently,” was changed to read: “The party has never made a major breakthrough at the polls since its creation.”
A spokesman for the US mission said the matter was being investigated.
