Lack of interest in the European elections could lead to constructive change

The results of the European elections will be sending a message that citizens want their nations' relationship with the EU to change.

If they need to, supporters of the European Union could find good reason to relish and welcome the most likely results of the European Parliament elections. They will have to live with the immediate painful and exaggerated headlines proclaiming the last rites for European integration. In time, however, more sober reflection may conclude that these elections have set the EU on a path towards constructive change.
