Member states reject extension of tax on officials’ salaries

Special tax of 5.5% will expire at the end of the month.

European Union member states have rejected a request from the European Commission to prolong an extra tax on officials’ salaries that is due to expire at the end of the month.

Maroš Šefčovič, the European commissioner for inter-institutional relations and administration, asked the Council of Ministers on Saturday (30 November) to prolong the use of the crisis levy of 5.5% on all EU officials’ salaries.
