Poland’s real scandal

Poles should be focusing on the origin of tapes that have revealed that Poland’s politicians are doing what politicians do the world over.

Poland is gripped by a scandal involving leaked tapes of politicians’ private meetings. Calls are growing for resignations, a new government, or even early elections. Yet the real scandal is not that politicians – according to the unverified, and perhaps selectively edited, transcripts – talk bluntly in private, sometimes using obscenities, disparage their colleagues, and even engage in wheeling and dealing. As Poles seem not to want to realise, all politicians do that everywhere.
