Support for global health in danger

Funding for global health campaigns is falling – and now the EU is proposing budget cuts that would fall disproportionately on the world’s poor.

European leaders will come together on 22-23 November to discuss the EU budget for 2014-20. We had expected some cuts to be proposed across the board, including to the development sector. However, the proposal suggests a disproportionate cut of around 10% for the development budget. That is a cause for grave concern. If agreed upon, these cuts will put progress on global health goals under serious threat.
