Swoboda says UK should call EU referendum

Centre-left leader in the European Parliament takes issue with controversial stance taken by David Cameron.

Hannes Swoboda, leader of the centre-left group in the European Parliament, has urged the British government to hold a referendum on its membership of the European Union.

“We should have a referendum now,” he told European Voice, after expressing exasperation at the increasingly confrontational stance adopted by David Cameron, the British prime minister.
