A round-up of the international press on Friday, 21 December.

Doom and gloom fills the European press today. The shortest day of the year has brought with it some dark economic news too.

 In France Le Figaro does not feel very positive about 2013. It reports that the outlook for the French economy is rather bleak. France’s National Institute of Statistics does not see French growth exceeding 0.1% in the first and second quarters of 2013, below the target of 0.8%, the paper says. The unemployment rate could reach 11% in June.
