A guide to the European Parliament

At the mid-term point between the elections of June 2009 and June 2014, the MEPs elect a new president and new vice-presidents. The chairmanships of the Parliamentary committee are up for re-election and the jobs re-shuffle will also affect positions in the political groups. Since the elections of June 2009, more than 30 MEPs have left the assembly and been replaced. In addition, the Parliament is about to be expanded from 736 members to 754.

European Voice published a guide to the European Parliament, with its authoritative take on the reconfigured assembly. The guide will bring readers up to date with this turn-over. As well as names, facts and figures, readers are given European Voice's analysis of what lies behind the changes in people and procedures. There are profiles of the leading figures, and explanation of how the Parliament is using the greater powers given by the Lisbon Treaty.
