The European Commission has pledged €2 million in humanitarian aid to help the victims of floods in north-eastern India where around 2,000 people are estimated to have lost their lives in the worst floods to hit India in 50 years.

ICG calls for EU unity and caution over Georgia

The International Crisis Group (ICG) has called for the European Union to show “a real sense of unity” ahead of Monday's (1 September) emergency summit on the situation in Georgia in Brussels. It is urging a show of solidarity with Georgia and “symbolic” action against Russia that does note amount to isolation.
